Obituary of Glenn Theodore Alstead Jr.

Glenn Theodore Alstead, Jr, passed away in Tacoma, WA, on April 5, 2023, after a short battle with cancer. He died peacefully with his family by his side. He was 85 years old.

Glenn (known to many as Ted) was born at Tacoma General Hospital on June 29,1937. He spent his early years in the Midland area of Tacoma, attending Franklin Pierce High School. He later attended the University of Puget Sound. Glenn was a General Contractor, Land Developer and Realtor in the Puyallup/Tacoma area.

He loved being outside in nature! He enjoyed camping, sitting around the campfire, and fishing. A few of his favorite places were Kalaloch Beach, Icicle River (near Leavenworth, WA), and Clear Lake in Yelm. He thoroughly enjoyed gardening and the beautiful flowers he raised. He kept his many bird feeders full so he could enjoy watching a variety of birds throughout the year.

Glenn was a kind, loving man and a loyal friend, and had a deep spiritual faith. He loved animals, particularly his cocker spaniel, Krissy, and many of his other pets over the years. He also enjoyed light jazz and classic country music as well as classic television shows and movies.

Most of all, he loved, enjoyed, and was so proud of his family. He enjoyed family dinners and get-togethers above all else. “If you loved them, you fed them” was his motto!

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Sr and Alice (Dugwyler) Alstead and sisters Beverly (Dick) Campbell, Sally (Jimmie) Spezia, and Sydney (Mike) Lawler.

He is survived by the love of his life, Darlene (Book), his wife of 63 years; his sons Mark (David Buchholz), Troy (Connie), and Scott; and 7 grandchildren: Emily (Matt) Lundervold, Katie (Logan) Ellis, Elias Alstead, Trielle Alstead, Aaron Alstead, Asa Alstead and Amaris Alstead; and 3 great grandchildren, Ezra Lundervold, Gracie Lundervold, and Levi Lundervold. He is also survived by nieces Colleen Spezia, Jeanine Lantz, Leslee Lindstrom, and nephews Michael Spezia and David Spezia; as well as other nieces and nephews, his Godson James Spezia, and special friend and brother-in-law, Jimmie Spezia.

There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local food bank.
