Obituary of Laurence Arthur Flatness

Laurence Arthur Flatness or Larry as he was known by many, beloved husband, stepdad, grandpa, and friend, passed away April 14th 2023, surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with cancer.

 

Laurence was born on December 24th, 1940, to his parents Kenneth Flatness and Ruth Moore in the bustling city of Havre, Montana.  After

Laurence graduated from high school, he went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to December of 1964. From there Laurence pursued his music career, playing guitar and singing songs throughout the greater Seattle area. Laurence then worked and managed various wood mills in the Tacoma area. Laurence also worked as a horse trainer in the 1970’s, working with horses who raced at Portland Meadows and Long Acres.

 

In 1971 Laurence married his first wife Kashmera. Later, Kashmera became ill with cancer and Laurence cared for her until she passed away in 2011.

 

Laurence  began working at Chief Leschi in 1991, where he was a driver and became the director of transportation. It was at Chief Leschi where Laurence met his second wife Bonnie. The two married in December 2014. Laurence gained four children from their marriage, two step sons, Christopher and Matthew and two step daughters, Samantha and Katelyn. Along with a bunch of grandchildren! The two had a loving marriage and enjoyed traveling and crossing things off their bucket list together! They were always busy making memories and exploring with each other.

 

Laurence retired from Chief Leschi in 2016 after 25 years of service with the transportation department. While retired Laurence took time to make more music and write more songs. Laurence also found other hobbies, like walking his pups and flying helicopters, he always liked to keep busy!

 

Laurence was predeceased by his mother, father and his brother, Kenneth. Laurence is survived by his wife Bonnie, his step children, Christopher Ball, Matthew Ball, Samantha Ball and Katelyn Conte and by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

We will be having a celebration of life held at Chief Leschi School on May 13th 2023 from 12pm – 3pm.
