Obituary of Sidney Charles Mickelson

Sidney Mickelson of Edgewood, WA died April 4, 2021 after a hard fought battle with a chronic heart condition. He was 85. Born August 14, 1935 in Ashby, MN.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Mickelson.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Merle Mickelson of Edgewood and four children: Deba Peterson of Lacey, Rod Mickelson of Edgewood, Shanna Mickelson of Puyallup and Lynette Morton of Edgewood. Sid was preceded in death by his infant sons Stanley and Jeffrey. He also leaves behind five grandchildren: Travis Otto, Tiffany Wood, Marcus Murray, Lynae Morton and Brendon Morton. And four great grandchildren: Chausssie Otto, Cozette Wood, Cooper Wood and Valen Otto.

Also left behind was Sid’s Machine Shop, for which he was known to be able to fix anything!

From the time they built their home in Edgewood Sid volunteered for the Edgewood Fire Department and quickly realized he had a passion for a career with the Fire Department. On March 1, 1966 he was hired as a Fire Fighter with the Kent Fire Department.

After almost 20 years of service he figured out that running away from burning buildings made more sense than running towards them. He retired January 8, 1984 as a Lieutenant.

Viewing will be held Friday, April 16, 2021 from 4:00PM – 8:00PM at Hill Funeral Home, Puyallup, WA (All are welcome)

Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 11:00AM in the chapel of Hill Funeral Home, Puyallup, WA with the Chaplain Pat Ellis of the Kent Fire Department officiating. (We regret that due to the COVID restrictions we have to ask only immediate family attend the chapel service).

Graveside services will immediately follow Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 12:00PM at the Woodbine Cemetery, Puyallup, WA with Honor Guard and “Last Call” (All are welcome).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made in memory of Sid Mickelson to the Kent Firefighters Foundation through Hill Funeral Home.
