Obituary of Velma Heighton McKay

Our beloved mother, Velma Heighton McKay, passed away 10 days short of her 100th birthday on Feb 5, 2021.

She was devoted to Jesus, her family and friends alike.  Born in McCune, KS Feb 15, 1921, she was the oldest daughter of 4 children.

After graduating from high school, her family moved to Nampa, Idaho where she attended Northwest Nazarene College and met the love of her life, Harry Heighton.  They were married in 1947 and subsequently moved to Seattle where their family grew to 4 children.  Mom and Dad did everything together, partners in the truest sense. Mom was devoted in her faith, her family and actively contributed to the lives of others in her church and community.  They finally retired in Puyallup, WA where they made lasting friendships.

Velma taught herself accounting and perfected that profession like she did everything else.  She was a skillful hand quilter & seamstress and loved to read, exercise and travel.  After Dad passed away in 1988, she married Bart McKay in 1996 and the next 14 years were again filled with love, companionship and travel until his death in 2010.

She spent her last year living with her son Kelly and his wife Kris, who lovingly opened their home for all of us to love on her until Jesus called her home.  Well done, good and faithful servant!

Velma is survived by her children, Lonnie Heighton (Sue), Deborah Hanson (Steve), Sandee Heighton (John), Kelly Heighton (Kris) and 7 grandchildren Benji, Aaron, Jeff, Scott, Krissy, Arielle, and Noah and 5 great-grandchildren Joel, Baron, Zephaniah, Areya, and Riven.

Preceded in death:  Harry Heighton, Ashley Wiley (granddaughter) and Bart McKay.
