Obituary of William Leo Hoffert, JR
William Leo Hoffert Jr was born on 3/10/1947 in Fort Eustis, VA to the parents of William Leo Hoffert Sr and Pauline Marie Hoffert. He was an only child. He passed away and went home to Glory on 8/15/2020 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife, Renee and his children, Sean Hoffert from Puyallup, WA., Katie Lyn Hoffert, daughter in-law, and Rebecca (Hoffert) Meckes of Batavia, OH.; grandchildren Kyle, Colin, Katie Rose, Ella, Morgan, Sierra, and Emily (who didn’t have any living grandparents, so she became his adopted very special granddaughter too); and many extended family and friends. Viewing hours will be Wed. Aug. 19th 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.at Hill Funeral Home Chapel, 217 E. Pioneer, Puyallup, WA. 98372. Interment will be at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery at 9:00 a.m. Thursday Aug. 20. It will be a short 30 min. ceremony with honor guard. William, our “Bill”, graduated Scotia – Glenville High school in 1964. He earned the Eagle Boy Scout rank at a very early age. He enjoyed Track and Cross Country. He was drafted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, and served as 1st Lieutenant Officer in the 33D ARMOR REGIMENT 3rd Division in Germany. He was a tank commander and graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon his honorable discharge, he started studies at Jamestown College in Jamestown, ND. He returned to his home town of Scotia, NY and went to work as a computer operator, 15 yrs., for General Electric in Schenectady, NY.
He married his love, Renee Joan Moxness from Jamestown, ND on December 22, 1973. They were together for 46+ years. His son Sean Hoffert was born in 1977 and daughter Rebecca Hoffert in 1978. exactly a year apart to the day. Bill and Renee affectionately called them- their “Irish Twins”.
The family moved from Schenectady, N.Y. to Scotia, N.Y. in 1983. Bill graduated from Schenectady County Community College with an Associates in Business Administration in 1986. He continued in his studies at Siena College, in Loudonville, N.Y. Bill graduated with a Bachelors in Business Administration in Accounting with Honors in 1997.
In 1997 he moved to the Cincinnati, OH. area and pursued a career in Research Grant Administration at the University of Cincinnati. He also continued his lifelong passion for learning by earning his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in 2000. He competed in a SCORE Service Corps of Retired Executives Univ. Of Cincinnati SBI Case Competition and was awarded Third Place in a large body of case competitors. Bill also completed requirements to earn his national ranking as a Certified Research Administrator supporting medical and academic national and international research (also Ball State University in Muncie, IN and the University of Washington, in Seattle, WA.).
Bill served as a Deacon at East Glenville Community Church in N.Y. and was a deeply spiritual man. Loving God and loving others were his focus, supporting many Christian and Messianic Jewish worldwide ministries. He was a supporting member of: the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) with Jay Sekolow; CUFI – Christians United For Israel with Pastor Hagee; CBN Christian Broadcasting Network’s 700 Club, Orphan’s Promise, Operation Blessing and CBN Israel with Pat and Gordon Robertson; The Jewish Voice with Rabbi Jonathan Bernis medical teams and water projects to Africa; The Voice of the Martyrs financial support/supplying Bibles to persecuted suffering Christians around the world; Sid Roth’s Its Supernatural Project 77; member of the Tanzania Board Fundraising Project in Muncie IN. to help build/complete an HIV orphanage, in Tanzania, Africa; Esther House Halfway House for women coming out of prison- fundraising and work crew project in Cincinnati, OH., RZIM Ravi Zacharias Ministry support of Christian Reasoned Apologetics; and Billy Graham Crusade Counselor Training.
He was a Level 2 U.S. Archery Instructor and NRA Safety Instructor, on the Shooting Sports Committee, serving the Boy Scouts of America for 60 plus years in many leadership and training roles. Bill received many scouting community awards for his dedication to serving youth across America. He loved maps and compass tracking, knot making, camping and the great outdoors, history, math, cross country running, all things military, Biblical archaeology and learning/studying Hebrew, astronomy, wood carving, music/singing, and Sports Car of America (SCCA) rallying and racing events. He was an avid reader and juggled family, faith, work with great passion and good humor. Laughter was his constant companion and this was seen in puns, funny phrases and endless stories. He was an Irishman through and through and often kissed the blarney stone. However, his character also encouraged others to seek the more serious pursuit of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and was a student of studying Christian Hebraic roots with El Shaddai Ministries in Sumner, WA.
Bill had a long and arduous journey with his health from 2011 to 2020. He had many challenges, but kept his faith and courage through it all. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his willing smile, and his enduring spirit. Thank you, Bill, for all the memories. You have gone home our dear friend! Shalom!
Re: See YouTube Paul Wilbur, Nobody Like You music video. He listened/watched this over and over. Also Paul Wilbur’s new album CD/DVD “Roar From Zion”.
