Obituary of Ronald Sasaki

Deeply rooted Orting resident and third generation vegetable farmer, Ronald Sasaki Sr., 77, passed away peacefully the morning of October 6th, after a hard-fought battle with a brain tumor which lasted more than a decade. As a devoted fan of the Seattle Mariners, it was no coincidence that Ron began his rapid decline as the M's faded and then were eliminated from the playoff contention. But then again, you could argue that the effects of the declining salmon and steelhead populations from his years of catching his limit on the Carbon River also took its toll. Ron was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a respected member of the community, employing many high school kids who needed a summer job weeding fields and harvesting different varieties of lettuce and other vegetables. In the late 1990’s, Ron started to supplement the crops with pumpkins and corn. He opened and operated a successful vegetable stand with his wife, Faith, near the Orting Soldiers Home to serve the local community. Ron was a long-time member of the King-Pierce County Farm Bureau and the Pierce County Conservation District. Growing up in Orting, Ron attended Orting Schools from 1st through 12th grade. After graduating from Orting High School, Ron attended Western Washington University where he met Faith. He then transferred to the University of Washington where he earned his degree from the Foster School of Business. Ron was an extremely hard worker, who put in countless hours on the farm. When not in the fields, he could be found steelhead fishing along the banks of the Puyallup or Carbon rivers. As the sun would start to set, you would hear him say, “One more cast” at least five or six times. Ron also looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Cabo San Lucas with his family and friends where they would do their best to fill the boat with tuna and other gamefish. Ron will be missed by his wife of 54 years, Faith; daughter Stephanie Mosby (Paul), and sons Ron Jr. (Adriane) and Rich (Alice); along with his seven grandchildren, Preston, Marin, Hayley, Jack, Jake, Nora and Luke and the Orting Valley and farming community. Remembrances in Ron’s name may be made to the Orting Alumni Association Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 46, Orting, WA 98360. Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019, 1:00pm at the Pioneer Park Pavilion in Puyallup.
