Obituary of Claire Norris

Claire Dickson Norris Loving Mother and Friend Claire was born to Parm and Gladys Dickson of Okanogan on Oct. 22, 1927, passing away June 6, 2018 from a stroke with other complications. Claire graduated from Okanogan High School along with her childhood sweetheart, Larry Norris. They soon married while attending WSC (now WSU), Larry with a degree in Pharmacy, and Claire earning her master's degree in Early Childhood Development, a rarity for women in the late 1940's. Claire and Larry moved to Puyallup in 1955, raising a family, and soon became owners of Beall's Rexall Pharmacy, a long established Independent Pharmacy. They had three children, Mark (Deborah Puckett Norris) of Edgewood, Paul (deceased) (Michelle Norris), and Gail Norris-Smith (Tom Smith) of Puyallup. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Larry, and son Paul. Loving granddaughters include Jessica Norris Quinn (Shawn), Hailey Smith Houtrouw (Peter), Kaycee Norris Parker (Michah), Sarah Norris Hall (Loren), Lindsey Smith Evans (Rudy), Rachael Norris Hather (Wes), Amanda Smith Hunter (Chris), and Hillary Norris Schneider (Willie). Claire found such joy and pride in her 8 granddaughters, making a loving impression on each one. To date, she has 11 "greats"! Claire was quick-witted, with a keen sense of humor, and loved to banter. She enjoyed sharing a dram of Royal Crown with family and friends. Claire was an avid bridge player and golfer, and loved to ski in her younger years. A great gardener, she loved her roses and being at the family beach house with her greats and grands. Claire loved to travel and had a real thirst for knowledge, which was passed on to not only her family but expanded beyond, with her continued support of the education of women. Claire belonged to Tri Delta Sorority, PEO chapter CX, Linden Golf Club, and the Presbyterian Church. Private family services will be held. Please join us for Claire's celebration of life, which will be held June 29, 2018 at 4:00 pm at the Windmill Bistro in Sumner. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Claire D. and Lawrence H. Norris WSU Pharmacy Scholarship, WSU College of Pharmacy, P.O. box 1495, Spokane, WA 99210.
